Healing My Hoarder-Self

My studio is a clutter of artworks and discarded objects. I realized in order to have more space, I needed to get rid of “stuff”. About 6 months ago, I got a saw and I cut up my larger sculptures that I created about five years ago. I piled the parts in a corner of the studio. This action opened up some space. I told myself that I could reconfigure the sculpture parts “one day”.

I watch videos on YouTube while I work in my studio. The algorithm or the Universe provided the option to watch Tim Fletcher. He is an expert in complex trauma. His content has been very helpful for me. Recently I watched, https://youtu.be/3poE54Nqjz8?is=-e28jvavB1c_MDk_

I realized I have a habit of hoarding after Tim Fletcher’s presentation. It took several days for me to process what he shared. I recognized myself as a hoarder.

This morning…I removed most of the cut-up sculpture components. I made many trips removing the sculpture parts from my studio. I loaded the chunks into our Odyssey van in the 90 degree heat. I drove them to the alley behind my home. I stacked the colorful debris by the garbage cans. I feel a postive shift. I have more stuff to declutter from my studio.

I want to also credit my friend, Don Wenig. He once shared with me that to him something like…..”Art is the process of making the artwork…not the actual artwork. Don Wenig’s career has been as a yoga teacher. He and his now deceased wife, Marsha Wenig founded Dancing Feet Yoga. Marsha went on to establish Yoga Kids. Don’s art philosophy also reminds me of the Tibetan monk sand painting.
